Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis suggest the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important political figure said the incident made him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
